Mike Ribecky is one of the rare individuals who possesses Hall of Fame credentials as both a player and coach. The 1973 Muskegon Catholic Central graduate was a standout 6-foot-3, 220-pound two-way lineman with the Crusaders. An Associated Press first-team Class B all-state selection, Ribecky earned a full-ride scholarship to Western Michigan University where he was a four-year starter at offensive tackle. In his senior year of 1976, Ribecky helped the Broncos finish second in the nation in rushing yards and earned second team all-Mid American Conference honors. He returned to Muskegon, where he worked 29 years with the Heights Fire Department and over 45-years as an MCC football assistant coach, specializing in coaching the offensive and defensive lines. “Bunny,” as he is known most, has served as right-had man for six different Crusader coaches including the Muskegon Area Sports Hall of Fame inductees – Roger Chiaverini, Pete Kutches, and Mike Holmes. Under his guidance, Catholic Central has won nearly 400 games and an incredible 12 state championships.
