Justin Abdelkader’s journey from local standout to national champion and NHL veteran is a story of grit, talent, and clutch performance. At Mona Shores High School, Justin led his team to the Division 2 state championship game and was honored as Michigan’s Mr. Hockey, earning spots on the 2004 Dream Team and All-State roster. His senior year saw him join the Cedar Rapids RoughRiders of the USHL, where he played a key role in their Clark Cup championship run and was selected for the 2005 USHL All-State Game. At Michigan State University, Justin delivered one of the most iconic moments in Spartan hockey history, scoring the game-winning goal with just 18.9 seconds left in the 2007 NCAA National Championship game to defeat Boston College—a performance that earned him Most Outstanding Player honors in the Frozen Four. From 2008 to 2020, he wore the winged wheel of the Detroit Red Wings with pride, tallying 252 points on 106 goals and 146 assists. Justin’s legacy is marked by leadership, perseverance, and unforgettable moments on the ice.
