Frank Schubert is a beloved figure in the Reeths-Puffer community as a longtime teacher and coach, who was well known throughout the Muskegon area as an official. Schubert was twice selected all-state as a quarterback at Manistee High School, who went on to play quarterback and running back at Ferris State.

Schubert served his country in the U.S. Army and, while stationed in Germany, played on a variety of high-level sports teams around Europe. After completing his degree at Western Michigan University, he came to the Muskegon area in the early 1960s and built the house in Laketon Township where he still lives today. Schubert started many of the sports programs at Laketon Junior High and later Reeths-Puffer and coached just about every sport.

When he wasn’t coaching, he was one of the area’s longest-running driver’s education instructors (more than 50 years) and he officiated everything from middle school to college – for almost 60 years in football and basketball, and 64 years in track & field. Schubert was also a huge advocate for getting more kids involved in officiating, and regularly donated his time to host officiating clinics.
