Frank Lewandoski’s legacy as a dominant force on the football field began at Muskegon Catholic Central, where he helped lead the team to a perfect 9-0 season and a mythical Class B state championship in 1974. Anchoring a defense that allowed just 56 points all season, Frank’s presence was both commanding and inspirational. In 1975, his outstanding play earned him first-team all-state honors and a scholarship to Northern Illinois University, where he cemented his place in football history. At NIU, Frank set a school record with an astonishing 616 career tackles—a mark that still stands—and became the first player in Mid-American Conference history to surpass 600 tackles. His impact on the game was further recognized with his selection to NIU’s All-Century Team and the All-Time Huskie Stadium Squad. Frank Lewandoski’s career remains a testament to grit, excellence, and unmatched dedication on the gridiron.
